Álvaro Novo was born in Estarreja, in 1972.
He helds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, USA (2001), a Master Degree in Statistics Applied to Economics also from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, USA (2000), a Master Degree in Economics from the Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, USA (1997), and a bachelor in Economics from the Faculdade de Economia da Universidade de Coimbra (1995).
He works at Banco de Portugal since 2001.
He is an invited Associate Professor at ISEG, Lisbon University and at IMS, Nova University.
He was President of the Working Group on Labor Market Statistics at the Council for Statistics, 2008-2012.
He has published his research on Labor Economics in journals, books and book chapters.
He was Economist-Chief to the Minister of Finance, Mário Centeno, from December, 2015.
