Portugal sends antiviral drugs and oxygen to India

Given the increasing number of cases of COVID-19 in India, which in the last three days has reached 1 million of infected people, Portugal has already shown its willingness to contribute in a spirit of solidarity, bilaterally and in the framework of the European Union, namely through the Emergency Response Coordination Centre (ERCC), to the efforts of the international community in response to the request for support from the Indian Government.

In concrete terms, Portugal will send antiviral drugs to India, as well as oxygen, as the most expeditious way of transporting this material to its destination is being assessed within the framework of the European Union.

At the same time, at European level and in its position as Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Portugal will continue to take proactive steps to mobilise political support and ensure the European Union's leadership of this process.
