The Secretary of State for Home Affairs, Patrícia Gaspar, watched over the material for emergency temporary housing material’s departure. This material was sent by the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) to the Republic of Moldova to aid refugees who flee the war in Ukraine.
"The Republic of Moldova i sone of the countries with a pressing need for assistance", where there are currently 110 thousand Ukrainian refugees, said the Secretary of State.
The material donated by Portugal under the European Civil Protection Mechanism will be delivered to the Moldovan Civil Protection authorities in Kishinev, and includes 400 sleeping bags, 400 camping beds, 400 inflatable mats, 800 blankets, 400 pillows, 400 sheets and 1200 amenity kits.
"It is a huge effort undertaken by the country’s authorities and Portugal’s aim is to help those who need it the most at this time", said Patrícia Gaspar, recalling that Portugal had previously offered assistance to Poland by also sending humanitarian material under the EU Civil Protection Mechanism.
"This is a long-distance race, it doesn’t mean we are done helping; we will continue to monitor the situation and understand the new more pressing needs that may arise in the region and continue to help, like other European countries that are offering the necessary solidarity", she claimed.
Patrícia Gaspar noted the "huge humanism and solidarity" that "all the countries have followed to provide the necessary support to the Ukrainian population".
