Minister of Home Affairs at the 10th anniversary of the Emergency Response Coordination Centre

The Minister of Home Affairs will attend the ceremony to celebrate the 10 years of the Emergency Response Coordination in Brussels.

The European Centre coordinates emergency response in Europe, as well as fostering cooperation between the member countries, mobilising resources and experts to manage crises. 

This commemoration, organised by the European Commissioner for Crisis Management, will have a first part focusing on the European response to wildland fires/disasters. The second part will focus on response to Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear defence incidents, especially in support of the conflict in Ukraine.

In this ceremony, the strengthening of the assistance granted by the European Commission to Member States with a view to respond to the challenges posed by the upcoming firefighting season will e addressed, something that has always been advocated by Portugal and which was reaffirmed in September 2022 by the Minister of Home Affairs at a JHA Council.

In this context, the Portuguese Government applied to the rescEU mechanism, which is to set up operational response reserves that can be mobilised in the event of a crisis namely in the field of civil protection.
