Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education travels to Pittsburgh in the United States

The Portuguese Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Elvira Fortunato, will be travelling to Pittsburgh, US, from Sunday to Tuesday, from 26 to 28 March for a meeting focused on a status report on the 3rd stage and future of the Carnegie Mellon Portugal Programme.

The meeting will take place at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), with which Portugal has had an international partnership since 2016 and which involves Portuguese universities, associated labs in the field of Information and Communications Technology, among other national entities, as well as 11 departments at CMU, around 150 companies and more than 400 teachers and senior researchers in mobility Portugal and the United States of America.

The Minister Elvira Fortunato will address the evolution of this partnership that was integrated in the goPortugal – Global Science and Technology Partnerships Portugal initiative in 2018 and which has enabled Portuguese teachers students and alumni to set up companies under the CMU Portugal programme and which has allowed PhD fellowships to be granted in an academic and corporate context.

This is a particularly relevant programme in the government area of science, technology and higher education, which defined as one of its priorities to significantly increase the presence of PhD holders in a non-academic context, such as the corporate and industrial fabric, public administration, and social sector.

Minister Elvira Fortunato will attend several meetings with the persons in charge of US scientific institutions.
