Government approves 205 million to assist Ukraine

Council of Ministers of 27 March 225

The Council of Ministers approved a 205-million-euro assistance in equipment for Ukraine "in their efforts to defend their territorial integrity ad sovereignty, and the security and freedom of all Europeans", said the Minister of the Presidency António Leitão Amaro at the press conference following the meeting.

"Portugal is committed to supporting Ukraine’ defence in the context of the European commitments and those with its allies and assisting the Ukrainian people’s efforts", he said.

These 205 million are part of the 221.6 Portugal pitched for 2025, "plus the 227 million given by Portugal in 2024".

The Council of Ministers also approved two urgent decisions regarding expenditure for healthcare to patients with special needs, "as these are important services", he stated.

Accordingly, it approved 36.7 million euros under the cooperation agreement with the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa to ensure the continuity of physical medicine and rehabilitation healthcare offered by Alcoitão Unit, a pioneering institution and a benchmark in these specialties.

In order to guarantee "access to healthcare through partnerships with the social sector", a six-million-euro expenditure was approved under the agreement with the Aurélio Amaro Diniz foundation, an institution that, through its hospital, provides urgent response care in acute situations.
