The Portuguese Prime Minister attended the summit of the 33 countries that make up the international coalition to strengthen support for Ukraine held in Paris, in the context of the ongoing military aggression.
The aim of the summit was to coordinate diplomatic, operational, and logistical efforts among the attending countries, including the European Union, United Kingdom, Canada, Iceland, and Turkey.
Among the subjects discussed were the immediate relief mechanisms, the security guarantees, and the medium- and long-term support mechanisms for the Ukrainian authorities.
On the same day, the Council of Ministers adopted a Resolution that authorises expenditure up to 205 million euros to support Ukraine militarily.
This sum is intended to offer military equipment in several areas under the bilateral cooperation between Portugal and Ukraine.
The resolution falls under the international coordination efforts with the European and transatlantic partners with a view to offer a joint response to the impacts of the war on security in the European space.
Portugal’s participation in this is in the wake of the initiative launched in Paris on 17 February, which was focused on mobilising international support to Ukraine and strengthen their defence capabilities, the reference for this being the principles of international law and respect for State sovereignty.
