S&P upgrades Portugal’s rating to "A" and maintains positive outlook

The Standard & Poor’s (S&P) rating agency has again reviewed Portugal’s risk rating on a high, raising the rating from "A-" to "A". S&P also maintained positive outlook.

According to the agency, this evolution reflects the confidence in the Portuguese economy’s trajectory and its capacity to sustain this in the medium term.

In its official statement, S&P notes that «the positive outlook reflects the Government’s strong policy track record, along with trends supporting the economy’s external position – as reflected by current account surpluses despite global macroeconomic uncertainty – and declining Government debt as a share of GDP, could lead to a positive rating action in the next 24 months".

Standard & Poor’s upgrade in the rating reinforces the already positive rating due to the Portuguese decreasing public debt by other international rating agencies and confirms the national finance’s stability.
