The Portuguese Government launched its official TikTok account, @gov_pt, as part of a strategy to modernise Government communication. This new channel will reinforce proximity with young people, fostering dialogue and transparency through content adapted to the digital platforms.

With priority issues young people are interested in, such as youth housing, employment, education, and menta health, the aim of the account is to demonstrate how public policy has an impact on daily life. Plus, it will offer a Government backstage perspective and the decision-making process, busting myths on how public institutions operate.

The content will be informal and informative, allowing complex issues to be simplified and fostering interest in civic participation. The initiative reflects the Cabinet’s commitment to foster rigorous, transparent, and credible information, using modern tools to counter disinformation and create a more positive digital environment.

The presence on TikTok also seeks to respond to concerns on the effects of social media, offering educational and informative content that empower youths to identify reliable sources of information and engaging in a constructive manner in collective challenges.
