Labour, Solidarity and Social Security
Maria do Rosário Palma Ramalho was born on 18 September 1960 in Lisbon.
She graduated in Law from Católica Portuguesa University in Lisbon, in 1984, holds a master’s in Law (Legal Science) from the University of Lisbon Law School, a PhD in Law (Legal Science) from the University of Lisbon Law School.
She has been Chair Professor at the Lisbon University Law School since 2010, where she coordinates and lectures on the subjects of Labour Law and Civil Law General Theory in the undergraduate, master’s, and PhD levels.
She chaired the APODIT – Portuguese Labour Law Association as of 2013 and was re-elected in 2017 and again in 2018, 2021, and 2024.
Member of the ISLSSL – Internation Society for Labour and Social Security Law Executive Committee since 2014 and Vice-Chair thereof since 2021.
Portuguese member of the European Commission International Commission of Jurists for gender equality and non-discrimination since 1994.
Legal counsel in the fields of Labour Law, Civil Law, Social Security, Public Service Law and Equality Law.
Scientific coordinator of several international projects in the fields of Labour Law and Equality Law and in that scope, consultant for the European Commission, the European Parliament, and the International Labour Organization.
She has written several monographs and dozens of papers in collective works and periodicals, both national and international, in the fields of Labour Law, Social Security Law, Civil Law, and Equality Law.
Guest professor at other universities in Portugal (Coimbra University Law School, Lusíada University, Católica Portuguesa University), Brazil (Presbiteriana de São Paulo University, University of São Paulo (USP), and Pontifícia Universidade Católica in São Paulo), and in Spain (University of Seville, Complutense de Madrid University, Oviedo University, and Santiago de Compostela University), the Netherlands (University of The Hague), Czech Republic (Charles University of Prague), Italy (University de Turin), and Angola (Lusíada de Angola University).
