Nuno Melo travels to Turkey and Poland with refitting the Military and Defence Industry on the table

• Supply vessels built in Turkey will strengthen the Portuguese Navy Fleet

• Visit schedule includes interaction with Turkish companies and meeting with the Secretary-General of the Turkish Defence Industries

• Nuno Melo meets with the Polish Minister of Defence in Warsaw with the aim of setting up synergies between both countries

Minister of Defence attends the keel laying ceremony for NRP Luís de Camões, the new Navy supply vessel.

The Minister of National Defence Nuno Melo visits Istanbul in Turkey and Warsaw in Poland from 27 to 30 January with the refitting the Military and Defence Industry on the table. He will travel on a Portuguese Airforce KC-390 plane.

Wednesday is set aside for interactions with Turkish companies. On Thursday, the Minister of Defence meets in Istanbul with the Secretary-General of the Turkish Define Industries Haluk Görgün. 

On the same day, Nuno Melo will visit the ADA yard in Tuzla and attend the NRP Luís de Camões’s keel laying ceremony, the first of two supply vessels that will soon join the Portuguese Navy. The Turkish Minister of Defence Yaçar Guler will also attend the event. 

On Friday, Nuno Melo has a meeting with the Polish Minister of Defence Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz in Warsaw with the aim of setting up synergies between both countries.

Included in the delegation are the Deputy Minister and for National Defence Álvaro Castello-Branco, the Navy Chief of Staff, Admiral Jorge Nobre de Sousa, the Air Force Chief of Staff, General João Cartaxo Alves, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of IdD Portugal Defence, Ricardo Pinheiro Alves, among others.
