On the European Day against Human Trafficking, the Government reinforces the importance of the 5th Action Plan for Prevention and Combat (2025-2027)

Tomorrow, we commemorate the European Day against Human Trafficking. On this date, we signal the collective commitment to counter one of the gravest violations against human rights: reducing an individual down to merchandise for labour or sexual exploitation, to become a slave, or other forms of abuse.

In this context, the Government reiterates its commitment to boosting public policy on preventing and repressing this crime, as well as protecting and supporting the victims, stressing the 5th Action Plan for Prevention and Combat (2025-2027)a strategical central instrument in this national response.

The Technical Monitoring Committee for this 5th Plan has already met with the aim of bringing forward the monitoring work on the execution status of the 111 actions under the Plan.

We note the high level of execution of the set training actions, where we highlight training more than 300 law enforcement operatives and training on child trafficking for the National Commission on the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Children and Youths (CNPDCJD).

We also remark on the progress on the creation of multiforce teams and strengthening supervision activities at risk locations.

Please recall that human trafficking is a silent, often invisible crime that affects thousands of people in Europe and the world, with a particular incidence women, children, and people in vulnerable situations.

This is a reality that requires a firm, coordinated, and sustained response. On this day, the Government calls on mobilising the whole of society – public institutions, private sector, civil society and citizens – so that together, we can foster a culture of respect for human dignity.

Eradicating human trafficking is a collective responsibility and an ethical duty that calls on all of us to act.
