The public consultation of the bill that transposes the Renewable Energy Directive begins
• The transposition of RED III will set targets on renewable energy quotas, with sustainability and greenhouse gas emission reduction criteria, as well as mechanisms that enable traceability and transparency in energy source use.
Maria da Graça Carvalho: "Transposing this Directive will bring Portugal in line with the international commitments for the energy transition and decarbonisation"
For the next 30 days, the bill that updates national targets on incorporating renewable energies in the countries’ consumption, as well as the mechanisms necessary for its implementation and monitoring is available for consultation on ConsultaLex, thereby complying with the partial transposition of Directive (EU) 2023/2413, known as the Renewable Energy Directive (RED III).
The same bill also sets the targets applicable to renewable energy consumption in buildings, in industry, for heating and cooling and, complementarily, strengthens the sustainability and greenhouse gas emissions criteria in producing and using biofuels, bioliquids, and biomass, as well as renewable fuels of non-biological origin and recycled carbon fuels. In addition, it will introduce mechanisms that guarantee the identification of origin and enable the traceability and transparency in renewable energy source use.
The idea is to have the largest number possible of contributions from citizens and companies through this public consultation. According to the Minister of Environment and Energy Maria da Graça Carvalho, "this is a decisive phase in the process to transpose a European Directive that will be crucial to implement the national energy policy, bringing Portugal in line with the international commitments for the energy transition and decarbonisation".
