The Government included in its Programme 80 measures put forward by the opposition parties, of which we note 27 from Chega, 25 from the Socialists (PS), 16 from Iniciativa Liberal, 6 from Livre, 2 from the Communist Party PCP, 2 from PAN, 1 from BE, and 1 from JPP.
The new Government thereby resumed the practice from Luís Montenegro’s first Government, where they included 60 measures from the opposition parties’ programmes in their own.
Among the proposals put forward by Chega, we have an improvement on the mechanisms to protect children who suffer from abuse, expanding the recipients of those who benefit from the rental assistance programme, and free school textbooks for students in compulsory schooling, regardless of the school they attend.
It also includes zero tolerance to school unruliness and violence, guaranteeing adequate means for the law enforcement to monitor illegal immigration, increasing penalties for crimes relating to trafficking human beings and aiding illegal immigration, and the creation of the Good Return programme for migrants who wish to return to their country and have the means to do so.
Among the proposals put forward by PS, we find rationalising fees to cut companies’ red tape costs, proposals in the area of infrastructure and in science and innovation, opening annual competitions for doctoral scholarships in all scientific areas, and reorganising the Science and Technology Foundation.
Also included are administrative simplification measures, filling up vacancies in continued care, and a new cultural patronage status.
Among the IL proposals, we find eliminating redundances through a smart sharing of data between services, a postgraduate training model in nursing, simplifying standards for rendering accounts for election campaigns, and installing mobile phone jamming signals in all prisons.
Also included are simplification of several rental assistance programmes, the possibility for workers to choose whether they want to be paid their holiday and Christmas bonus in twelfths (every month), and opening waste management up to private enterprises as a complementarity scheme.
Among the Livre proposals, we find measures to fight child poverty, active ageing, integrating musical, drama, and dance artistic teaching in state schooling.
Among the PCP proposals, we find developing productive capabilities, innovation, quality and competitiveness in the canning industry, and diversifying the main energy sources.
Among the PAN proposals, strengthening legislation to protect the Iberian wolf and monitoring the ecological status of subterranean water masses.
Among the BE proposals, an energy efficiency programme for housing.
Among the JPP proposals, setting up a ferry line between the Autonomous Regions and the mainland to carry freight and passengers.
