Portugal and Mozambique boost cooperation in more than twenty areas
Portugal and Moçambique have strengthened their bilateral ties today during the 6th Portugal–Mozambique summit held in Porto, attended by the Portuguese Prime Minister Luís Montenegro and the President of the Republic of Mozambique Daniel Chapo.
Throughout the day, 23 members of the Government of both countries took part in sector meetings and a plenary session, ending with the signing of more than two dozen bilateral legal instruments, with a focus on a credit line of up to 500 million euros for Portuguese corporate projects in Mozambique.
This deepening of relations was set in the Final declaration text, adopted at the end of the summit.
The summit’s motto was "Portugal–Mozambique: Partnership and Prosperity" and included bilateral meetings in strategic areas such as foreign policy, the economy, finance, infrastructure, housing and transport, home affairs, labour, justice, environment and energy, agriculture and maritime affairs, public administration, State reform and digitalisation. The aim was to deepen the existing cooperation, modernise key sectors and foster sustainable development and economic prosperity.
Among the announced outcomes, we note the singing of an addendum to the Strategic Cooperation Programme, which was increased by 15 million euros, as well as the revision of the Portuguese Cooperation Entrepreneurial Fund (FECOP). The commitment to vocational training, the promotion of infrastructure, tourism, and consolidating strategic relations in defence and security was also reaffirmed.
The Heads of Government also noted the important role by the Portuguese and Mozambican communities and converged around upholding the democratic rule of law and human rights; as well as reiterating their commitment to supporting the reconciliation and development processes in Mozambique.
