The Prime Minister Luís Montenegro stated that the celebrations of Portugal, Camões and the Portuguese Communities Day showed the commitment to continue working towards improving the lives of the Portuguese people inside and outside national soil.

In a message posted on X, Luís Montenegro stressed that the 10th of June made clear the goal that guides Government action: a joint effort so the Portuguese inside and outside national soil may have greater quality of life, equal opportunities and be proud of belonging “ to the Portuguese nation.

The Prime Minister added that this work is based on the principle that “no Portuguese person is forgotten, no one is left behind and no interest stands above national interest!.

In the same message, Luís Montenegro addressed a word of acknowledgement to the Portuguese communities spread throughout the world, thanking the Portuguese who, beyond borders, contribute daily towards Portugal’s affirmation: “Thank you to the Portuguese people who, throughout the world, are our ambassadors”

This year, the Portugal Day celebrations were held in Angra do Heroísmo on Terceira Island in the Azores, and in Luxembourg, where the celebrations with the emigrate Portuguese communities were concentrated. On both sites, Portuguese language and the works of Luís de Camões were at the centre of the celebrations, symbolising the connection between Portugal and its communities in the world.

In Angra do Heroísmo, the commemorative military ceremony was held, as well as several initiatives of contact with the population. The solemn session featured speeches by the President of the Republic António José Seguro and the commissioner for the celebrations Miguel Monjardino. The President of Parliament José Pedro Aguiar-Branco also attended.

According to these commemorations’ institutional tradition, the Prime Minister does not give a speech at the official ceremony for 10 June.
