The Official Residence in São Bento reopens its gardens to the public on 25 April at 2 pm with a programme focusing on Portuguese theatre, including performances from schools and the actor Ruy de Carvalho attending.

 After attending the solemn session in Parliament, Prime Minister Luís Montenegro celebrates Freedom Day with a private lunch at 1 pm with Ruy de Carvalho and his family, which combines three generations of actors.

“We chose Portuguese theatre as the theme to celebrate the 25th of April”, stated the Prime Minister in a video shared on social media, indicating theatre as “the utmost expression of our creative capabilities, critical thinking, and the projection of or collective capabilities”.

Starting at 2:45 pm, the gardens of São Bento will host three performances from theatre schools: Broadway Kids in Sintra with “Medley’s da Broadway”; Jobra Educação in Albergaria-a-Velha with “As Bodas de Fígaro”; and Boutique da Cultura in Lisbon with “Crianças e Adultos”. The programme runs until 4 pm.

The initiative promotes the reopening of the Official Residence to citizens and signals the 25th of April as a tribute to theatre and culture, engaging different generations and regions throughout the country.
