Prime Minister expresses his gratitude for the President’s spirit of collaboration
The Portuguese Prime Minister Luís Montenegro stressed that the Government "acknowledges and has huge gratitude for [President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa’s] spirit of cooperation and institutional collaboration. The President ends his term in office on 9 March, the date of the new President António José Seguro’s inauguration.
At the end of the Council of Ministers presided over by Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa upon invitation of the Prime Minister, the latter added that "we were happy and effective because we enjoyed a spirit of friendship, solidarity, service to our country and our nation".
"As we developed this relationship of closeness, we solved the problems we had to overcome and oftentimes anticipated problems", he added.
The Prime Minister also said that President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa has the trait of "always being on the inside in all matters", "thoroughly studying the breadth of the political decisions", and analysing the national or international political setting meticulously, thanking the contribution that the President’s legal background offered on certain points of the Government’s action.
Luís Montenegro also thanked on behalf of the Government the President’s "availability" and thanked, "above all as a Portuguese person" "these 10 years of constant challenges, constant achievements, experiencing realities one could not foresee, yet always with a spirit that characterises your presidency of proximity, affection, knowledge, and closeness".
Several subjects were addressed at the meeting, such as the Portuguese language and being Portuguese, the Portugal Transformation, Recovery and Resilience (PTRR), and the current international geopolitical context.
