The public consultation on the Green Map to accelerate renewables is now open
From 17 June and during the next month, the Green Map will be under public consultation. This is an instrument that identifies the areas of the country most suited to installing renewable energy projects, the so-called Renewable Energy Acceleration deriving from the European Union Renewable Energy Directive and is included in the Recovery and Resilience Facility.
According to the Minister of Environment and Energy Maria da Graça Carvalho, the Green Map guarantees “simpler rules, greater predictability, and a boost of local communities’ participation with a balance between energy, environment, and territory”.
Based on the technical work by an independent team coordinated by Professor Maria do Rosário Partidário, the aim of this Map is to simplify and accelerate licensing, offer greater predictability to developers and investors and boost articulation with the municipalities and local communities. The Green Map defines preferred zones for these projects taking into account environmental criteria, energy potential, land planning, and proximity to electricity grids, guiding the investment to territories with a greater environmental sensitivity and capacity for grid integration.
The public consultation is on the platform participa.pt and is open to citizens, municipalities, environmental entities, and developers.
