Minister of Foreign Affairs visits Angola to strengthen cooperation and contact with the Portuguese community

The Minister of Foreign Affairs (MFA), João Gomes Cravinho, will visit Angola on his first official visit abroad. With the aim of strengthening the dialogue with the Angolan authorities and reinforcing cooperation and relations with a country with which Portugal has close historic ties, the programme will begin with meetings with the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, and with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António.

The head of Portuguese diplomacy will also take advantage of this two-day visit to the capital, Luanda, to get a closer look at the work of the Portuguese community in several sectors, highlighted by a meeting with the business community.

At a time when Angola is focusing on re-launching its economy, after two years conditioned by the COVID-19 pandemic, this trip by the Portuguese Foreign Minister is an opportunity to create new projects and boost existing initiatives involving Portugal and Angola.

About two months before the II United Nations Oceans Conference is held in Lisbon, the Portuguese MFA will signal the importance of Angola having a strong participation - in what will be one of the biggest international events of the year - given the maritime dimension common to both countries.

The first official visit of Minister João Gomes Cravinho abroad takes place two weeks after his inauguration, in one of the member countries of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP), assuming and materializing the importance of deepening mutual friendship and cooperation within the CPLP. Angola currently holds the rotating presidency of the CPLP.
