Distinguished members of the Parliament and Senators,

Dear Ambassadors,

Estimada Comunidade Portuguesa no Canadá,

 

On behalf of the Portuguese Government and of the Portuguese community in Canada, I would like to convey the Canadian Parliament on the occasion of the seventy (70th) anniversary of the arrival of the first wave of official Portuguese immigration to this country on May thirteen (13), nineteen–fifty-three (1953), when the ship Saturnia docked in Halifax.

 

The presence of the Portuguese in this country, as in all parts of the world, has contributed to the universal affirmation of our values and culture.
