Catarina Sarmento e Castro was born in Coimbra, in 1970.
She holds a PhD, a Master and a Degree in Law from the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra.
Since 1994, she has lectured at the Coimbra Faculty of Law, where currently she is Professor of Law. Over the years, she has also lectured in postgraduate courses at different universities and on different fields, such as constitutional law, administrative law and police law, ICT law, e-government and data protection law.
Former Member of the Consultative Council of the Prosecutor General's Office.
She has served as a Judge of the Constitutional Court.
Former Member of the Superior Council of Administrative and Fiscal Courts.
She was Member of the Portuguese Data Protection Authority.
She is author of books, book chapters and law journal articles, covering different areas of law, namely: ICT law, data protection and privacy law, constitutional and fundamental rights law, administrative law, police law, administrative and fiscal justice, school law and local government law.
She has been guest speaker at national and international conferences and colloquia on the aforementioned fields.
