Ana Catarina Mendes was born in Coimbra in 1973.
She has a law degree from the University of Lisbon’s School of Law, attended and completed the curriculum section of her master’s Degree on New Law Frontiers at ISCTE-IUL.
She is a lawyer.
She was President of the Socialist Party’s Parliamentary Group in the 14th legislature and 1st Vice-President in the 13th legislature.
She was elected a member of parliament in the 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th legislatures.
She took the role of Deputy Secretary General of the Socialist Party from 2015 to 2019.
She was Vice-President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in 2016 and 2016-2017 and Chair of the Portuguese Delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe from 2016 to 2019.
Member of the Almada Municipal Assembly (1993 – 1997 – 2013).
Member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe - PACE (since 2005), in the Immigrants, Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons Committee and the Committee for Political Affairs and Democracy.
President of the Portugal-China Friendship Group.
