Miguel Alves was born in Lisbon in 1975. He lived in Caminha from an early age.
He graduated in Law from Coimbra University in 1999 and has a post-Graduate degree in Labour Law from Moderna University in Porto.
He was Mayor of since 2013, having been re-elected twice.
He was Chair of the Northern Regional Council, full member of the Committee of the Regions, substitute member of the ANMP General Board (National Association of Portuguese Municipalities), and Chair of the Viana do Castelo Civil Protection District Committee.
He was legal director at Geocapital, Investimentos Estratégicos, S.A. from 2009 to 2013.
He was deputy mayor of Lisbon from August 2007 to October 2009.
He was advisor to the Minister of State and Home Affairs from January 2006 to May 2007.
He was chair of the Grand Assembly of the Coimbra Academic Association and president of the National Association of Young Lawyers.
