Biography

Cláudia Sofia Gomes Monteiro de Aguiar was born on 8 April 1982 in Funchal. She is married and has three children.

She has a degree in Sociology from Minho University, a post-graduate degree in Marketing and Communication from Leiria Polytechnic Institute, and an Executive Master’s in Business Administration and Digital Transformation from Católica Portuguesa University.

From 2011-2014 she was a Member of Parliament, where she was member of the Economy Committee and the European Affairs Committee.

From 2014-2024, she was Member of the European Parliament, where she was member and Vice-Chair of the Fisheries Committee. She was also Vice-Chair of the SEARICA intergroup for the ultra-peripheral regions.

She was lead rapporteur and shadow rapporteur on several reports, namely the proposal for the Council decision on the celebration, on behalf of the European Union, of the protocol to execute the partnership agreement on sustainable fishing between the European Union and the Government of the Cook Islands; on the draft project on the Council decision on the protocol to execute the partnership agreement on sustainable fishing between the European Union and the Republic of Cape Verde; the report on the implementation of the regulations that set the common organisation of the fisheries and aquaculture products market; the report on the regulation proposal by the European Parliament and Council that sets the measures for the management, conservation, and control applicable to the Zone covered by the Southern Indian Ocean Fisheries Agreement (SIOFA); the report on shared fisheries management in the EU and the contribution by the fisheries sector to the execution of managerial measures; the report on the status of small-scale fisheries in the EU and outlook; report towards a sustainable blue economy in the EU: the role of the fisheries and aquaculture sectors.
