Biography

Ana Paula Martins was born in Guinea Bissau on 4 November 1965.

She holds a PhD in Clinical Pharmacy from the Lisbon School of Pharmacy, a master’s in Epidemiology from Nova University, Lisbon, School of Medical Science, and an undergraduate degree in Pharmaceutical Science from the University of Lisbon School of Pharmacy.

From December 2022 to January 2024, she was president of Santa Maria Hospital in Lisbon. She was deputy director of the University of Lisbon Pharmacy Faculty (FFUL) for the 2020-2024 period. For many years, she was also assistant professor of the Socio-Pharmacy Department at the same institution.

From 2016 to 2022 she was President of the Pharmacists’ Association and from 2019 presided over the Evidence-Based Health Institute (ISBE).

From 1994 to 2006 she headed the Pharmacoepidemiology Study Centre of the National Pharmacies Association and was Secretary-General of the Pharmacists’ Association from 1989 to 1992.

She was advisor to the Minister of Education and the Deputy Minister of Parliamentary Affairs from 1992 to 1994.
