Biography

Pedro Dias was born in Vila Nova de Gaia on 31 August 1968. He is married and  has two children.

He has been a Sports Manager since 1995, having worked at Beira Interior University (from 1995 to1998), Minho University/SASUM (1998 - 2011) and the Portuguese Football Federation (2011 - 2024).

He was an athlete, within the Basketball, Handball, and Football National Sport Federations (including Futsal).

At Beira Interior University he studied Textile Engineering (1988) and Management (1995), and studied Public Administration at Minho University (1998).

At the Autonomous University of Barcelona - Escola de Doctorat de Formació Continuada, he took part in two specialization courses in the 2000/2001 academic year: "Strategic planning in municipal sports bodies" and "Management skills for professionals in charge of sports facilities".

He was a member of the installation committee of the Academic University Sports Federation- FADU (1989, 1990). He was Vice-President (1991-1993) and FADU President (1993-1995).

At the International University Sports Federation (FISU) he was a member of the International Control Committee (1997-2003) and member of FISU Executive Committee from 2003 to 2011.

He was a member of the board of directors at the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) between 2011 and 2024 and member of the FPF Emergency Committee during this period.

He was a member of the FIFA Beach Soccer Committee (2014 and 2015) and has been a member of the UEFA Futsal and Beach Soccer Committee since 2014, where he was Vice-Chair, Vice-President and Member.

He was member of the General Council of Beira Interior University (UBI) from 2017 to 2020.

He was Member of the Physical Education and School Sport Commission of the Portuguese Olympic Committee between 2017 and 2022.

He was Member of the Executive Committee of the National Olympic Committee of Portugal (2022 to 2024)

He was named "University Sports Personality of the Year" at the Portuguese Sports Confederation Gala in 1997, 2007 and 2013.

He was awarded the Order of Merit, presented by the President of the Portuguese Republic on 15 December 2015.
